In March of 2010, Richards friend from high school was throwing a surprise party for his wife who happened to be Danica’s best friend from high school. Both Richard and Danica, who had never met, both ended up going to the party even though it was a ferry ride and hours away from where each other lived. They had a funny meeting at the party but really didn’t connect, especially as both had just gotten out of serious relationships and weren’t in the mindset to meet anyone new.
Weeks after the party their mutual friends encouraged Richard and Danica to consider one another – so they thought why not and both loving the outdoors went on a hike together! Danica’s first impression of Richard was mixed, she thought he was pretty edgy and intimidating but super hot. How Richard dressed on the hike was a different impression, “he looked like a super nerd with glasses and Lululemon shorts and socks!” “He looked like a super nerd with glasses and Lululemon shorts and socks!”
To this day he is still those two different personalities to Danica; she knows and loves both.

Both Richard and Danica love the outdoors; rain or shine, so it’s not a surprise that some of their fondest memories are kayaking to Granite Falls, hiking Bear Valley, camping at Tunkwa and playing games by the fire. One of Danica’s funniest memories was when they were kayaking in Deep Cove for the first time and a “ripple”, not a wave, a ripple, came their way and Richard stabilized her kayak so she wouldn’t tip. It was “so sweet but he was so not aware of my competence”. One of Richards fondest memories was eating Toshi’s (famous local sushi place), watching the Festival of Lights fireworks show on Spanish Banks – an “amazing night and I felt so connected to her.

In October of 2013, Danica went away for a “She’s Inspired” retreat weekend to Sun Peaks resort – at the end of the weekend Richard and their daughter Kira, went to pick Danica up. Instead of going home they went for a nice family walk through the stunning trails and “coincidentally” ending up at a heart shaped rock where he proposed. Excitement overcame Richard as he had bought the ring that weekend and just couldn’t wait a moment longer!
A Harrison Hot Springs Resort wedding was the perfect location – situated on the beautiful Harrison Lake at the foot of lush mountains; surrounded by nature, exactly where Richard and Danica love to be! Having it on May Long weekend had a double meaning, Danica’s parents and Richards grandparents were also both married on the May long weekend and are perfect “examples of marriage” – says Danica.
And the adventure continues…
