Petrus
“The particularity of Petrus is the single 11.4-hectare vineyard located at the top of the Pomerol plateau. It is a vineyard that benefits from a unique, rich blue clay soil, where Merlot reigns as king. Neighbouring vineyards only have a portion of this fabulous soil.
There is no château at Petrus, but historically, the place takes its name from the Latin version of Saint Peter.
The domaine was gradually purchased in 1925 from the Arnaud family by Madame Loubat, with a final settlement in 1945. In 1947, she partnered with Jean-Pierre Moucix, a Libournaise négociant, and both travelled the world to introduce Petrus to the best tables. Since 2001, the estate belonged to Jean-Pierre’s eldest son, Jean-Francois, and in 2009 his own son Jean took the realm of the estate.”
The Post Hotel
“Known originally as the Lake Louise Ski Lodge, Post Hotel first opened in 1942. Jim Boyce, a well-known guide from Banff, was the builder. He sourced logs for the lodge in Revelstoke and at the headwaters of the Bow River. With a crew of just ten men, using mostly hand tools, the building was completed in a remarkably short time. The war forced a closure soon thereafter and the doors would not open again until 1948.
The wine cellar at Post Hotel had grown to one of the most impressive in the country and has become an attraction all on its own. Meticulously curated over the years, the cellar received the Grand Award by Wine Spectator Magazine, an accolade it has retained for over twenty consecutive years. With a collection that had grown to over 25,000 bottles, a magnificent new cellar was opened in 2005.”
