Courtney was on a girls’ road trip to watch her brother play lacrosse for Buffalo (New York), when she first met Travis. As she and her girlfriends were driving from the arena to the bar, she was pulled over by the police for driving down a closed road. Courtney was only 20 at the time and underage for drinking in the U.S. Travis noticed the commotion outside the bar, walked up and introduced himself to Courtney. There was instant chemistry between them.
There was instant chemistry between them. Courtney hoped Travis could help get her out of the ticket, but instead, he said he would see her inside. Courtney was furious that he didn’t help her, but she did manage to sweet talk her way out of the ticket and find her way into the bar. Travis, immediately upon seeing her, went over to see how she made out with the ticket. She proceeded to tell him he was an (expletive) for leaving her outside and told him never to talk to her again! Travis tried to make it up to her by buying her a…

a drink, strike #2, she adamantly refused. He then said he would buy a round of shots for all her friends. How could she refuse an offer like that? They were all starving students and she couldn’t deny them. Courtney told Travis that she drank vodka and diet coke, when he handed her a vodka soda, he was at strike 2.5! He wasn’t used to girls being this tough, after all, he was professional athlete! He ordered her a vodka and diet coke and said he wanted to get to know her better. Courtney ended up hanging out with Travis all night – they were absolutely inseparable. After exchanging numbers they texted 24/7. Travis asked her out on their first date two days later, and they have been together ever since.
As “testing” as their first encounter was, it paled in comparison for what the future held. Courtney lived in Ontario and Travis lived in British Columbia. Until Courtney finished university, they were faced with a long-distance relationship for many years to come. One of their fondest memories was when Travis phoned Courtney on a Thursday night and said he really missed her. Travis’ coach offered to pay for Courtney’s flight to visit for the weekend.

So after pleading with her boss for some time off, she booked a room at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Vancouver and hopped on the plane. They spent the entire time walking around Vancouver, spending every moment together. Courtney fondly remembers one special moment as they were walking hand in hand, she looked at him, breathing in the moment, and realized just how much she loved him and how happy and content she was in life. Later that evening, Courtney wrote a note on the hotel stationery, saying “l can’t wait to marry you!” Little did she know until years later, that he had kept that note in his wallet.

Travis is not a writer, so expressing his emotions are difficult, yet he spends hours writing out special messages in birthday, Christmas, Valentines’ and Anniversary cards for Courtney. She adores this about him and knows it takes him hours to find just the right words to express his love and feelings. Travis may not know, but Courtney has kept every card he has every written her. (Seven years worth!)
A few days before leaving on a trip to Mexico, Travis mentioned that he had bought a selfie stick and would like to try it out. Since they both loved Pitt Lake they made plans to head out there on the weekend. On the Saturday morning, Courtney woke up to Travis making pancakes (her favourite) and country music playing (which she loves to wake up to, even though Travis is not the biggest fan – it was the perfect morning! When they arrived at Pitt Lake, they walked to the spot where the path forks and you can go either left or right. Courtney noticed a photographer but didn’t think anything of it as it is not uncommon for families to have photos taken there. As they got to the fork, Courtney asked which way to go and Travis responded with “Wait a second”. A bit frustrated, she turned around and there was Travis on one knee and the photographer, hired by Travis, to capture this magical moment.
The wedding in Cabo San Lucas was the fairy tale wedding Courtney had always dreamed of. Ever since she was a little girl, she had wanted to be a princess, so it was fitting that the theme of the wedding was “Enchanted”!
Courtney chose the title for their love story as she had sent Travis a photo book of her first trip to BC and titled it “I would travel the world to be with you”. They have beaten all the odds; a long distance relationship, job loss, deaths, health issues, Courtney’s mom’s breast cancer, divorce, living on very little money. Through it all, they made it, their foundation remained strong, and they knew their relationship was truly special and worth fighting for.
